Why the slopes of the Abava valley demand proper water drainage

Sabile sits in the hilly valley of the Abava River, with a hillfort rising above the town - this pronounced, rolling terrain means many properties lie on or near a slope, where water runs off faster and can wash away soil if it isn't drained correctly.
