Why closeness to the river mouth means wet soil in Roja

Roja sits exactly where the Roja River flows into the Gulf of Riga - that location means sandy, moisture-laden soil across most of the village, regardless of how far a given property sits from the sea itself. It's the first thing we assess when planning drainage in Roja.
